Trib reporter as well as Army and Marine veteran Carl Prine has laid down a line in the sand asphalt over on the Pittsburgh Media Scoops and Gossip voy forum on the arrest of PG reporter Sadie Gurman last night.
Contrast that to the post just before his on the same subject. I am honestly a big fan of the right to comment anonymously in virtually all circumstances, a view that isn't all that popular these days, but somebody needs to stay under their rock.

And Brian O'Neill still walks free?
Prine was removed from the story after he said it.
The PG had lots of people covering the Friday night protest. None of them got arrested. It does sound a little cold to diss Ms. Gurman, but it's still reasonable to ask whether the PG isn't relying too much on unseasoned journalists.
CNN reporter was detained. Earlier in the week, two very seasoned NYT reporters were held. A Russian independent reporter was arrested, too. A Zuma photographer was shot at with rubber bullets after identifying himself as a journalist on Thurdsay. During Friday's Oakland operaton, a Trib photographer ended up in the hospital and the PG shot it while it happened.
It would be cold to diss Gurman, but it would more likely be incompetent when one considers that other very experienced reporters also were rounded up, beaten or hassled for doing their jobs.
I do not understand the criticisms of Ms. Gurman or her employer.
In the relevant described circumstances, a seasoned, strong reporter would have probably been more likely to be arrested/gassed/smacked than an inexperienced reporter would have been.
Great points on the previous two posts. I stand corrected. Continue my PG subscription and put Ms. Gurman on Pulitzer short list.
Interesting that we haven't seen a round-up in the PG yet of all of the arrested and injured journalists at the G-20.
Who was the hospitalized Trib reporter? What were his/her injuries? Was it Keith Hodan? If memory serves, he was injured at another event a few years back.
Should journalists be issued body armor?
