Pittsburgh inflation
Some new inflation data for Pittsburgh is out. From the Bureau of Labor Statistics last week: Consumer Price Index, Pittsburgh – Second Half 2012

"Sheila Watkins, the Bureau’s regional commissioner, noted that the recent 12-month advance in the all items index was due mostly to an increase in the index for all items less food and energy (3.3 percent). . . . The 12-month advance in the all items less food and energy index was led by higher prices for shelter."
Gosh-darned well-educated, well-paid, young whippersnappers are driving up our housing prices! Rent of primary residence was up 4.8%, owners' equivalent rent of primary residence up 4.3%.
Also up big: alcoholic beverages at 6.2%, and recreation at 4.7%. Again, I detect a "yuppie effect".
