Somewhere I read that the Pittsburgh MSA only added about 1,000 jobs between February 2012 and February 2013. Please tell me this isn't a bad omen.

There has been a lot of funny stuff going on with the MSA jobs numbers lately. There was a benchmark revision showing many more construction jobs in 2012 (and other adjustments), the two surveys (CPS and CES) showed pretty different year-over-year results for February, the February numbers have already been revised in the latest release . . . the bottomline is you should resist getting overly excited (either way) about a single month of data, particularly when it first comes out.

That said, it is very likely the pace of jobs growth will slow down from the pace during the first part of the recovery, and that process may have begun already. As for where it will stabilize, that remains to be seen.
