Obama Event

From this morning:

Just for balance:

update: I had to laugh at the Reuters coverage of this. The only angle they could come up with was the venue's connection to the movie: The Silence of the Lambs.... though they didn't mention steel, soot, or past economic miasma either so that's something.

Metroblogging Pittsburgh noted that people lined up at the Obama Highland Avenue office around the block, starting at 9:00 am on Wednesday for the noon start time to get tickets to this event. They "sold out" by 2:30, and eventually had a wait list of four hundred. You think maybe Obama has a chance here in the city?

In the city? Obama will likely do well in the city. How well exactly I dunno. But if he were not to do well in the city here he will be wiped out across the state would be the common wisdom... even more than the current poll numbers show. He will have to win very big in both Pgh and Philly proper if he is to win the state. To peg a number on it, not enough data for me to speculate too much.

but the bigger thing is just how screwey city and state politics are. Consider if you took Rendell and Casey supporters in their primary race for governor. I bet a large chunk of the Rendell supporters are now for Obama and Casey supporters are now for Clinton, yet you get opposite support in this race. Go figure.
