Steel to heal....

Some may be surprised that there is nary a mention of Pittsburgh here... but worth a read:

Mayo with everything in the Feb 23-29 edition of the Economist. Subtitled: "Cities and Hospitals...... What happens when a clinic takes over a metropolis?"

hi chris,
this must have aggravated jeff romoff- it even galls me a bit to see cleveland be acknowledged. clearly this football thing has gone to far with me..

but perhaps a more substantial thought. what this really means is the these towns and us are on a very sophisticated form of government relief in which old former industrial or agricultural towns are supported by extensive government handouts (medicaid and medicare) which arguably do very little to improve our overall health- except to keep up employment. (medicare long ago replaced steel as the major source of outside dollars entering our regional economy)

Well, I have proposed the team could be names the Southwestern Pennsylvania Double Helices... get the whole regionalism and biotech themes all at once. That and some good draft choices and we will be good to go.
