almost done: Obama vs. Kerry

So this is the difference in the percentage for Obama versus the percentage for Kerry.

I can't tell if my district is bluer. But I do know that we had nearly twice as many voters as 2004. I don't think the percentage splits were any different, but Obama got 50-100 more votes out of my district than Kerry did.

I already posted a map showing the change in total votes cast in 04 vs 08. Some patterns in that, but nothing too remarkable except in a few places. Overall votes cast for president in the city and county were virtually identical for the two elections. County: 645,469 in 2004 vs. 646,726 in 2008. for the city 151,385 in 04 and 156158 in 2008. Washington Post tomorrow has a story on the big myths of the election and they are going to point out that the pre-election mythos of big increases in younger and African American voters really didnt materialize.. just some small % increases in both, far from enough to account for the different results 4 years ago and now.

Mark, I just looked at both results again.. you sure about that 'twice as many votes' data? Here is what I see for a few nearby districts in terms of total votes cast for president in 2004 and 2008. Nothing even close to twice in votes cast for president. Nothing with a 10% increase even?

8-10 372 316
8-11 354 387
8-12 403 429
8-13 336 330

If you are talking about total votes cast and you really had twice as many somewhere but no increase in votes cast for president.. that would be a story unto itself?

My mistake. I'm amazed that 2004 was so high in the 12th ward. Maybe next time I'll check my facts first, although that goes against the grain.

Dang. 12th District. Might as well just get everything wrong.

Hmm... The colors are pretty misleading on this map. The dark blue means +20% and the dark red is only +10%. Which blue is the majority here? The medium blue or the light blue?

If I didn't know better, I'd think you were trying to skew us into thinking that the dark blues are equivalent to the dark reds.
