Hockey on the mind

I still can't get over how this is the guy who was going to buy the Penguins... In the Canadian press today:

Hamilton goes hockey crazy over potential NHL team: BlackBerry mogul Balsillie has southern Ontario buzzing with hope.

While interesting, I sort of wonder if Mr. RIM would have able to take the Pens and run off to Hamilton. The NHL has a strong interest had a strong interest in keeping a hockey franchise in Pittsburgh. It all comes down to eyeballs and in this market there are quite a few of them. 2nd in the US after NYC. A Hamilton franchise (from pgh) would draw on the Maple Leaf market, diluting viewership in Canada while losing a market altogether in the USA. I read somewhere that Penguin playoff game draws an audience that NFL teams draw in regular season games in normal cities. The NHL has to approve any team moves any moving the Pens to Hamilton would be like moving the Packers to Columbus. Sorry for the lack of corroborating links. In a bar waching the game and commenting on my iGizmo.
