B-17 in the Burgh - then and now

A WWII era B17 flew into Pittsburgh last week.

Meet the local pilot who flew the first B-17 to land in Pittsburgh

I didn't realize the B-17 came back through town again; next year I hope to take him back out there and get him up in it for a flight around the city.

BTW, awhile back I went looking in the old Post-Gazette archives (thank you Google) through the December 1942 papers but didn't find any story/photo (thinking that's where my friend Bob may have seen the photo he describes). It's great reading though, flipping through those old papers.

He actually flew a B-24 in the war after training on B-17s, after some old colonel shanghai'd him (literally) to fly the Hump. 69 missions up over the Himalayas. After the war he flew Bob Hope and Danny Kaye and others all around Europe as head of entertainment for the Army in Europe.
