Pittsburgh to everyone's surprise

Today's contribution from the Christian Science Monitor:  Seven cities that surprised in recession.

Less surprised is the WashPo which has:  Pittsburgh, three ways  with a dateline of this coming Sunday?

The CSM ratings are heavily influenced by not having negative recession factors - job loss, housing loss, etc. Areas with little or negative growth over the past two decades, especially Upper Appalachia and the Great Plains, did well in these kinds of categories.
