Afternoon musings

Where is the snow in this picture?

What does the market for Pharmacists say about Pittsburgh?  You may wonder why I even mention this...
but this one random post out in the ether commenting on the labor market for pharmacists in Pittsburgh says a whole lot with few words:

and I should have mentioned this already...  people forget how close GM's Lordstown plant is.  It's big news even for us that they are bringing back 1,200 workers there.  How close is it?  Google maps says it's a 75 minute drive from the center of Pittsburgh.  In a lot of places in the US people consider that a normal commute.

I went to to look up the average salary and benefits for pharmacists in the Pittsburgh area. Apparently there are 14 cities with higher average salaries, and 12 cities with more benefits on average. You can see the plot here.

I forgot to add: pay scales for hospital pharmacists are lower than they are for retail pharmacists. Just something to bear in mind if you should stumble upon the post by the guy who's "insulted" by the $36 per hour that he'd make at UPMC. (The pharmacists I know who work in retail earn close to $50 per hour.)

Is the pay difference for the extra dignity that comes from not selling Little Debbie Snack Cakes?
