Who has read Player Piano?

apologies for the cheap self-reference in there I know... but still a good read:

and who remembers the Pittsburgh reference in Player Piano?  or Vonnegut's Pittsburgh connection? Probably not a coincidence in that somehow.

Oooh! Oooh! I know!

Working in Pittsburgh is the ultimate step up for the Organization Men who make up the novel's cast. Obviously, that book hasn't aged too well. These days, we can only WISH for a dystopian future that involved a fully functioning safety net that included WPA-type jobs for all who need them.

But I actually don't know what Vonnegut's Pittsburgh connection is.

Wasn't that the book where he predicted that Pittsburgh would be the robot-making center of the world? Not all that far off really. There was another Vonnegut book where people formed their own "families" around adopted shared last names like "daffodil". I think I'm remembering that right. Anyway, it reminds me of the Facebook etc. phenomenon now. In some ways Vonnegut was fairly prescient.
