spotlight gets brighter

and now the FT aims its spotlight here: Pittsburgh’s pensions crisis nears deadline

Yet however much louder the parking miasma gets, the better we are as a place to live. Go figure.

We edged out Buffalo, so maybe the people making that particular list have some idiosyncratic preferences.

I hereby proclaim Pittsburgh is the number one city in America to eat a jelly donut at 2PM on Tuesdays in March.

Despite the eye-rolling character these rankings tend to invoke in me anymore, that is a pretty interesting list. I was also surprised to see Buffalo so highly ranked. And then I wasn't. I've always been pretty bullish on Buffalo. I was there recently, and after a few days, I sort of got the sense that Buffalo is psychologically where Pittsburgh was 15 years ago. There's sort of a determined short guy vibe and a real sense of place going on. Scrappy.
