As goes North Dakota.....

Via the Christian Science Monitor: Thanks to North Dakota, US waste of natural gas grows rapidly

Check out the composite photo of North Dakota satellite imagery at night over 20 years.  Anyone have anything similar for Pennsylvania?  The older dark sky maps of Pennsylvania show some pretty dark areas...   So dark that just a few years ago (although an eternity in Marcellus years) the New York Times wrote about it: Dark Sky, Bright Lights over Pennsylvania

I spent a lot of time in that area as my Grandmother is from Emporium not too far from Cherry Springs Park. The stars and sky at night in that area are amazing to see. The Milky Way is downright awe inspiring. I have been planning to go to the park but haven't made it there yet. Perhaps this fall.
Best to go out in Jan or Fen after a cold front brings in fresh and clean Canadian air. Allow 15 to 20 minutes for your eyes to acclimate to the dark.
Take some kids that have never been out of the metro area and watch them gaze at the heavens. Really cool.
