Number of the day: -7%

So if you are under the impression that the loss of flights at the airport is slow...  the number of scheduled flights departing PIT for the 12 months ending in August is down 7.03% from the year prior.

On time performance is way up so I assume that this was mostly US Air making more cuts.

Are the Latrobe-Houston direct flights scheduled yet? I can imagine that airport poaching some of these Houston energy employees, especially east of the tunnels.

You're being selective again. The decline in available seat miles (the real number the airlines use as a 50 seat regional jet and a 160 seat 737 or A321 count equal in the "scheduled flight" category) appears to be only 3.5%, which is almost directly on par with the overall contraction in the airline industry over the past year. Given that our population has stabilized at best, looks like we're about the same as everywhere else.

No worries... I know you are always up front with your comments.

I know who that comment is from actually... I will have to suggest to them they at least sign off as 'Not Ken' :-)

on a side note.. Funny thing is that the absolute busiest I've ever been on the people mover at the airport was at midnight Friday evening. Jam packed.

on a more important side note.. I was actually going to send an email on this, but is the ACCD behind the "Pittsburgh from the air" video that plays continuously on the air side of the people mover at the airport. Some memory neuron tells me yunz may have produced it? Maybe it was the airport authority itself?

I ask because I had a time watching it (because the backlog was so long there at midnight). It has quotes embedded in it along the way. One it highlights is from Mark Lay.. who I believe os the guy who been in jail the last few years. One of those small ironies that only I am obsessive enough to notice.

Not Ken here. Make that two people. I noticed the Lay quotes returning from Orlando in February. I sent an email to the Authority. Looks like they really paid attention.
