Cleveburgh Watch

The NS peanut gallery pointed out that Matt Yglesias is suggesting: on Slate we: Move Silicon Valley to Cleveland or possibly Detroit.

OK.. but the reason he discounts Buffalo and Pittsburgh?  "unlike Detroit and Cleveland, they lack a major airport."

Don't get mad at me, he said it. I just want a refund.

Tell him we have a major airport.....we just don't have major airline service.
And here is a reason for Silicon Valley to re-locate here. What Pittsburgh Can Teach the World About Living Well

Detroit's airport is pretty amazing; the PA announcements in Japanese, for instance, and that synchronized fountain and indoor monorail/train.

Fun fact: Detroit is a shorter flight distance to cities like Tokyo and Shanghai than Dallas.

Another fun fact: you can fly to more places in PA from Detroit, too: Allentown, Wilkes-Barre, Harrisburg, Erie, and State College.

Our air service is so pitiful these days. It's winter, high ski season, and there's not a single nonstop to Salt Lake City.

I'm just counting down the days until our local leadership--the same folks who still can't find a way to turn on the Holiday Lights at Hartwood Acres--are shocked, shocked that the last vestige of Allegheny Airlines--the Ops Center--is going to Dallas.

Coda: Apparently pro-Pittsburgh forces in the comment section beat Yglesias into submission:

"I'm happy to admit that this was a somewhat arbitrary process . . . there's a strong case for Pittsburgh . . . ."
