Data history

Worth a read in Pittsburgh which is certainly a "Legacy City" is this new from the Lincoln Institute:

Regenerating America’s Legacy Cities (Policy Focus Report)
Author(s): Mallach, Alan and Lavea Brachman
Publication Date: May 2013

I don't think Alan will mind if I point out that he was born here in Pittsburgh while his father was employed here as the local uber data wonk of the day. He worked for the Bureau of Research of the Federation of Social Agencies of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County, an organization that was way way ahead of its time in the civic data world.  Just another datapoint on how we lost our data edge, kind of like how the 'recipe' for concrete was 'lost' in the dark ages.

Started a comment and it turned into a bit of a tome, so I'm taking a break and planning to share it later tomorrow as a blog post over at Joe the Gerontologist.

That report is good but it fails to connect the dots in important ways re: it showcasing of Pittsburgh as an Eds and Meds example.
